Emotional Landscapes

Inspired by the home
The Emotional Landscapes series consists of six lithographs exploring the intimate spaces we call ‘home’. Inspired by my own experience of being raised in a household surrounded by women, I explore the ideas of domesticity, kinship, and femininity through these works. From the warmth of a sunlit kitchen to a dark corner of the bedroom, these prints attend to the nuances of domestic life, evoking emotions from joy to solitude, as well as memories and stories that resonate with the viewer.

Gaston Bachlard’s ‘The Poetics of Space’ was a significant influence during this project. Bachlard explores the idea of the childhood home being a universe in itself and a shelter from the outside world. My memories of childhood matched this theory of the home being a safe place to seek shelter. However, memories can be distorted over time, and not all homes are safe, happy, and comfortable spaces for everyone. Therefore, I wanted to explore the mixed emotions hidden within the wall of a home. Each print is a different room inspired by own memories and experiences of home.
